Food Fight! Announcing Our First Iron Viz Feeder Contest

Do you eat data for breakfast? Do you love chewing on big, delicious data sets? Are you skilled at blending data sets together into a nutritious visual smoothie? Are you hungry for viz glory?

Food is an important part of everyone's lives. With data about farming outputs, nutritional values, product recalls, and more, it's a topic that provides a feast of quantitative information. So, it's only fitting that the secret ingredient of our first Iron Viz feeder contest for 2016 is food data! Send us your tastiest vizzes and you might have a shot at competing at the Iron Viz Championship at TC16 in Austin!

For the uninitiated, Iron Viz is the ultimate battle of Tableau skills. Three challengers are selected based on contests help through Tableau Public. The challengers will face off head-to-head in a 20-minute viz battle in front of a live audience at the Tableau Conference. This event has always been one of the favorite events at conference.

Last year, three stellar contestants were chosen from our Tableau Public contests. Shine Pulikathara won our Wiki Data Viz Contest. Matt Chambers cinched the second spot by winning the 10X Data Viz Contest. Rounding out the trio was Skyler Johnson, who won our Music Viz Contest. The three battled it out on the stage of the MGM Grand Garden Arena for an intense 20 minutes of analyzing GDELT data. In the end, Shine came out victorious.

Do you have what it takes to join Shine and the champions before him as viz legends? Will your viz reign supreme? Enter the Food Viz Contest before April 24 to find out! Check out our contest page for more information and rules.

In celebration of the first Iron Viz contest of 2016, the month of April will be Food Month on Tableau Public. The team will all be whipping up some scrumptious data vizzes for you. To whet your appetite, here’s a viz from culinary connoisseur Russell Spangler:
