How many entries may one person make?

Please limit your entries to 2.

What if I submit an entry early, and then later re-work my viz and want to replace my first entry?

That’s fantastic – feel free to do that up until the close of the contest. Tableau Public automatically supports updates to your viz. You do not need to resubmit your entry form, simply update your workbook and save your changes. Your embedded viz will automatically update on the webpage you have posted it. We won't look at the entries until the end of the submission period, so update them as much as you want.

Can I really use any data?

For the Iron Viz: Geospatial Contest, you can use any data set(s) you find interesting, provided it includes a spatial component (not custom polygons) and legally can be shared online. Please be considerate of others, and do not use a data set that might be found overly offensive.

Where can I learn more about the new spatial file connector feature?

For the Iron Viz: Geospatial Contest, you have to connect to, and use, at least one geospatial file to create a your viz. The spatial file connector feature came out in Tableau Public 10.2, if you haven't updated to Tableau Public 10.2 you can download it here. Want to learn more about connecting to spatial files? Check out this blog post, and watch the "5. Connecting to Spatial Files" training video on our Resources Page.

How will you know if I've used the spatial file connector?

Please enable 'Download' on your published viz so we can check that you have used the spatial file connector. Vizzes submitted without this requirement will not be considered.

Who can I contact if I am having problems with Tableau Public?

You may contact Tableau at public-contests@tableau.com, please include Viz Contest in the subject line.

How will winner be chosen?

A panel of judges comprised of Tableau employees will evaluate all submissions based on the following criteria:

  • 25% - Design
  • 25% - Storytelling (note does not have to use the StoryPoints Tableau feature)
  • 25% - Analysis
  • 25% - Overall

How will the Crowd Favorite prize work?

When the submission period ends, each contestant will be assigned a hashtag. A contest page will list all of the entries and their hashtags. To vote for a viz, just write a tweet with the appropriate hashtag. We will count the number of Tweets from unique users for each hashtag during voting period.
