Landfall or Close Call: Hurricanes Since 1850

Originally Published on: Tableau Public

In this visualization, Mike Cisneros helps us answer questions like: In what parts of the world do hurricanes or tropical storms pose the greatest danger? How often do the world's largest cities avoid these storms?

In the landfall pane, hover to view location details (including the number of days that area spends under the storm's direct path) and click to see the tracks of specific storms. Also select from the Monsters dropdown to see the path of any storm since 1850 to have reached Category 4 or higher. In the close call pane, hover to view city details, click to see the tracks of storms in close range, and adjust the range.
