For more than three years, before I started my professional career in 1998, I worked as an automotive repair technician - basically an entry-level auto mechanic. It was one of my favorite jobs. I spent my days changing tires, batteries and brake pads, and installing shocks and struts. Ultimately, these repairs were making the cars run better and more efficiently.
Today, I'm a "data-mechanic" but my hands don't get dirty. I'm still making repairs, but I've swapped out cars for data.
As a data-mechanic, I build efficient business intelligence tools from raw data. I'm repairing the impractical millions of rows of data, and turning it into functional, automated tools to deliver insights and answer important business questions.
