Which countries receive the most Nobel prizes?

on January 7, 2010

The Nobel Prize is perhaps the most distinguished and sought after prize in the world. With data from the most recent awards in 2009, we thought it would be interesting to view recipients geographically and see which countries have taken the most Nobels home.

I encourage you to use the lasso feature to drill down into this data as there are some fascinating findings. For instance, selecting the United States and Canada will reveal that of the 76 total prizes in economics, 48 have been taken home to North America. Although the U.S. has the most nobels of any single country, it's clear that Europe as a whole has taken the majority of awards.
