Longtime Tableau Public author Kyle Biehle sent this new: "I worked with Maddies Fund to put together some visualizations tracking pet adoption/euthanasia rates by state/community/shelter." Maddie's Fund is a nonprofit devoted making sure that our furry friends who find themselves in shelters are treated humanely and adopted, not euthanized.

This is the first time such data has been assembled at the national level, and the visualizations help tell the stories. You can look at your own state to see how well it's doing. The South seems to have a the worst track record for live release at animal shelters. There's a lot of good info to browse among four vizzes, all of which you can find here.

To quote their press release: "I can't overstate the importance of this information," says Maddie's Fund President, Rich Avanzino. "Without hard numbers, it's impossible to know where we've been, where we are and where we are going."
