What is Fanalytics?

It's a gathering of Tableau Public authors (and those who want to find out more about what that means) for an afternoon of presentations and group viz building, followed by a meet-up to talk data over drinks. If you get that there's an incredible opportunity to apply your data skills to important (and fun) topics outside of the office, then Fanalytics is for you.

When and where does it happen?

This year's workshop occurs on Thurs, September 11th from 4:00pm to 7:15pm PT, immediately after Han Rosling's closing TC14 keynote speech in the Washington State Convention Center.

How much does it cost to attend?

$0. In typical Tableau Public fashion, Fanalytics is free for all to attend, not just TC14 attendees.

Who are the presenters?

I'm very excited to announce this year's presenters, three Tableau Public authors who have published numerous visualizations about their hobbies and interests, from basketball to music to baby sleeping habits. Click their photos to see their respective sites:

Fanalytics 2014

What will they be talking about?

  1. "Making discoveries with Tableau: What data visualization can teach us about roadway safety and baby poop" - Troy Heerwagen, Project / Program Manager at McKinstry
  2. "Connecting: getting personal with your audience" - Kyle Biehle, independent data solutions consultant
  3. "A Basketball Fan from Across the Pond" - Carl Allchin, Tableau Consultant at The Information Lab (UK)

After the panelists have shown their work and given their advice, we'll break up into small groups and get to work turning a music data set into visualizations, dashboards and data stories. And of course no Fanalytics Workshop would be complete without a friendly competition - our panelists will judge the submissions and one lucky group will win a grab bag of fancy Tableau clothing and swag. Lastly, we'll wrap it up by chatting over appetizers and drinks, because who's not a fan of that?

Hurry and register soon, as space is limited! We hope to see you there.
